Save the Duke of Marlborough!

The Duke of Marlborough pub in Somersham is threatened with closure in December when the present owners retire. Sarah Caston would like as many people as possible to attend a meeting on Monday 10th November at 7.30pm in the Village Hall with thoughts and ideas about the opportunity of acquiring the pub as a community asset.

Harvest Supper – £360 raised!

A huge thanks to Cathy and Gerard Kroon and their family for hosting the annual village Harvest Supper in mid-October. We not only had a superb supper and drinks, there was a successful raffle and competitions. £360.40 was raised, so thanks to everyone who helped out with catering and prizes. It was nice for so many villagers to catch up over a glass or two of wine!

Power outage information

In the east of England, our power distributor is UK Power Networks. In the event of a power cut, you should report the fault.

Eastern England UK Power Networks 0800 783 8838 (or 0333 202 2021 from a mobile phone) www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk

You can fill in an online form (if you’re able to!) at http://www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/internet/en/power-cuts/report-it/report-powercut-form/

Do remember that it is worth several people reporting power cuts in your postcode as the more reports they get, the more people are registered as affected. It is believed that there was some delay in repairing our power lines last autumn as just a handful of people reported the problem so UKPN assumed only a few houses were affected rather than most of the village.

All Saints and All Souls Days – 2nd November, Service

At the beginning of November comes the days of All Saints and All Souls when we honour the memory of saints and also our loved ones who are now at rest.

This year at Willisham church on November 2nd we shall be remembering those from our 8 parishes who have died in the recent past. Whether the funeral, memorial, thanksgiving or burial took place in another of the 8 churches or at the crematorium, the names will be included. We are also able to include the names of those who died longer ago whom you may wish to remember.

During the service you will have a chance to light a candle in memory of your loved one.

You are invited to Willisham church on Sunday November 2nd at 3.00pm.

Many people have found these services to be helpful and we look forward to seeing you and others of your family and friends who are able to join us on November 2nd.

Reverend Bernard Rose
